There have been quite a few family members, very ‘immediate’ family members even, who have mentioned that they plan to be present when I graduate college. As a person who has made it a habit to not give much credence to human promises (especially when the fulfillment date is in the distant…

This Generation - Quest

To the generation before us,

Its been said that Google has the answers

to that which we don’t understand.

But you’ve finding the wrong answers

When you type in This generation.

We are the generation bound by labels and caged by categories,

while you were generation who was doing the imprisoning.

You were the generation who paved pathways

but we were the ones forced to walk it.

But you never took the time to look down to see if we would wear

the same size shoes.

Your generation actions are like cement,

and we’ve just been trying  to break free.

And for this you’ve labeled us troubled.

You’ve been calling it troubled but we’ve been saying enlightened.

We are the generation who waited for our hearts to match the age of our mind.

We are the generation who has connected with our souls.

So we sip on this proof poison and puff on this green in an attempt to separate our soul from our body.

Purge our being from a plane whose goal

Seems like nothing more but to keep knocking us down,

But we’ve never comfortable sitting.

You, You were the generation who labeled us lost when it you its really your generation who was losing us.

Have you ever stopped to look into the eyes of this generation to see what our mouths will never tell you?

Because you were the generation who swept things under the rug

And we were the asked to quietly clean it up.

And for this we’ve been finding it hard to be like water.

So when the world got cold we found it hard to get solid.

Our climate keeps changing

 And our storms weathering,

And I’ve never heard your generation call us a survivor.

We are the generation who has seen beyond our years.

We are the generation who witness twins knocked down by birds.

Watched water swallow islands

Watched storms destroy cities

Watched our mail be used for warfare.

We are the generation who stood when told to sit down

SHOUTED when told to be quiet

We are the generation who never took no for an answer

We are the generation who called struggle, LIFE,

and still continued breathing.

And it is because of this I just hope that the next generation,

Never becomes a “this generation”,

But instead can become a generation,

Or better yet the generation,

Because this generation, when typed into Google,

should tell you that this generation

is the generation of promise and change.

Lose Myself - Quest ( Sings )

I can love you better.

Lose myself In Love.

I used to do it for the love along time ago

when all I ever wanted was love.

I used to love without fear a long time ago

when all I ever wanted was love.

But then, memories of my past started playing back like,

lyrics to annoying songs I wish I could forget the words to.

And somehow I found it easy to photoshop you into albums covers

all titled I cant trust you.

So I quickly became a contractor put up these walls.

Laced them with kryptonite layers of sarcasm and cynicism such that even the super woman within would still be contemplating how to get through.

And its been said that the past is the past but,

I’ve been finding it hard to move forward when is seems as though

my past has been using you as a prototype.

But I know you can’t expect much from a cheap knock off.

So I try to leave these heavy thoughts wrestling on shorelines

In attempt to lose myself so I can love you better.

I used to try to translate your heart into words

but I keep losing something in the translation, You

so I knew I had to lose myself ,so I could love you better

because you had your own walls.

You once told me you put up walls not to keep me out but to see if I would work to take them down.

So with my chisel in hand and heart on my sleeve I worked on your walls tirelessly and then stop.

Not stopping because I didn’t want to get through.

But stopping because I wanted you to miss my labor.

I wanted you to wonder why the chiseling and drizzling stop.

In attempt to see if, I lost myself in you, so you could lose your in me so ,

we could “Love Each Other Better.

Because it was worth it.

We wrote I love you’s in short hand

And felt them long.

We have that blank canvas kind of love where

You cant see it but here lies a rainbow.

We were the two batteries in a flashlight during a storm and a black out and it was amazing what we couldn’t see.

And all of this was made a possibility because I,

Lost myself ,and loved you better.
